Opening session (Energy Transition and Natural Resource Governance in Zambia): 09:00-10:30 hours
Aim: to set the tone for the ZAMI by giving an overview of the energy transition efforts in Zambia to-date, isolate specific actions or steps taken and introduce key stakeholder perspectives that stress the significance of ensuring that the country readies to ensure the energy transition works for us. This will be via the opening panel discussion where each panellist will present what their institution was doing to prepare for the energy transition. Discussants will be ministry of mines and minerals development, ministry of finance and national development, a representative of civil society and mining companies (Chamber of Mines).

Aim: This session will identify what these critical energy transition minerals are, for Zambia and the region, and explore how a clear approach can deliver desired national and regional development.
Panellists: the main presenter will be the Ministry of Finance and National Planning, while discussants will include the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa, Federation of small scale miners, mineworkers union of Zambia, the Chamber of Mines member, AZMEC, and a civil society representative.
Topic: Identifying the minerals and elements that are critical to national development, and the role of different stakeholder in getting maximum value.

Afternoon session: Value chains Versus supply chains: 14:00 – 16:00 hours
To enhance the participation of young people, this session will feature youths from four universities who will debate the motions that are relevant to the ZAMI theme. The final two teams will debate a motion that will be given at the last minute, at gunpoint. See details in the session pullout.

Afternoon session (Institutional Capacity for the energy transition): 16:00 – 17:30 hours
Aim: To benefit from the energy transition, there must new institutional, policy and legal framework, or in the way these institutions are arranged and operated, as well as the interaction among them. This session will therefore discuss ways to effectively implement the policies and laws for maximum benefit from the mining sector.
Panellists: The Financial Intelligence Centre will be the lead presenter while discussants will include the Law Association of Zambia, Chamber of Mines, Zambia EITI, and Transparency International Zambia/Centre for Environment Justice.
Topic: Challenges and opportunities to strengthening the laws and policies that govern the natural resources and climate justice sector

Aim: Zambia has in the last three years been signing several bilateral and multilateral agreements and memoranda with countries from different part of the world. While some of these agreements are in public domain, several others are yet to be unveiled, including the contents. Yet, even those that are known, there still remain lots of questions. This session, therefore, provides all the actors who have been named to provide a status update to key stakeholders in the natural resource governance and climate justice sector.

Aim: this will drill down the tangible benefits that will accrue to the country at it takes part in the energy transition. It will avail key institutions to discuss opportunities for exacting maximum benefits to the country, identify specific actions that are needed as well as the key actors who will be responsible for ensuring this value is attained.

DAY THREE – THURSDAY 29 AUGUST 2024
This day will be open to Civil society organizations that work in the natural resource governance, environment and climate change sector. This is an annual space for CSOs to reflect on their work, and how they could enhance their effectiveness at the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI)’s Multistakeholders Group (MSG). On this day, CSOs will review and adopt the new guidelines on how they will engage the government and mining companies on the MSG.
- Enhancing CSO accountability and coordination – adoption of EITI Guidelines for Civil Society
- Report about CS work on the EITI MSG
- CS priorities (work plan) for the period August 2024 to July 2025 period.
